Just like the Cartilaginous Fish called Stingray the police have their own Stingrays. While there are obvious differences there are also some disturbing similarities. Law enforcement can now track your cell phone even if you aren’t using it with a device dubbed STINGRAY most commonly provided by Florida based defense contractor, Harris Corp.
I don’t have a problem with our armed forces using Stingrays in military operations but I do have a problem with our own law enforcement violating the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. The FBI says it does not need to obtain a court approved search warrant because they are not using the device to listen in on phone conversations.
So law enforcement officers have the right to know your exact location as long as they “suspect” you of wrong doing without judicial oversight. There is current legislation in the House and Senate to require a search warrant to use such devices. Contact your Congressmen and Senators and tell them to pass laws stopping these blatant executions of Americans freedoms. We have the courts to approve these search warrants if they are indeed “WARRANTED”.
